LMU Presents Fine Arts for the Community

Wild Blue Yonder, Frog & Toad's Dixie Quartet, Oscar Rossignoli Trio, Bloom/Funkhouser Duo

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Paul V. Hamilton School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has announced a fall lineup of fine arts events for the community including music and visual arts.

Now – September 13 – Art Exhibition at LMU Arts in the Gap, Cumberland Gap (free)

“Tanasi: Black Tennessee and Appalachia” focuses on the art of influential Black Appalachians who live in Tennessee. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. A reception will be held September 12, 5-7 p.m.

September 6 – Wild Blue Yonder at the Duke Hall of Citizenship at 7 p.m. (free)

Wild Blue Yonder, originally formed by musicians Philip Coward and Melissa Wade in 1999, has evolved into a band deeply rooted in Appalachian heritage. Now joined by classically trained cellist/vocalist Kristiana McCombs Arnwine and percussionist Barry Johnson, the band blends their love for Old-Time, Folk, and Celtic music with a new focus on sacred and Gospel repertoire, reflecting their commitment to spreading the Christian message through the musical traditions of Southern Appalachia.

September 23 – November 1 – Migration Art Exhibition at LMU Arts in the Gap, Cumberland Gap (free)

“Migration” will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the duration of the exhibition. A reception will be held on October 17, 5-7 p.m. More information TBA.

October 11 – Frog & Toad’s Dixie Quartet at the Duke Hall of Citizenship at 7 p.m. (free)

Frog & Toad's Dixie Quartet focuses on Dixieland and early swing with a dedication to authenticity that sets them apart in the Knoxville music scene.

October 15 – Oscar Rossignoli Trio at the Duke Hall of Citizenship at 7 p.m. (free)

Oscar Rossignoli, a Honduran-born pianist and composer based in New Orleans, blends classical and jazz traditions in his music. A graduate of the University of New Orleans, where he was the 2015-2016 ASCAP Louis Armstrong Scholar, Rossignoli is a sought-after musician. He leads his own quartet and is a member of the EXTENDED trio, which includes Matt Booth and Brad Webb. Rossignoli and Webb began playing together in 2012 after meeting through a mutual friend at Louisiana State University (LSU), and they later met Booth in 2015.

November 11 – December 6 – Regional High School Art Exhibition at LMU Arts in the Gap, Cumberland Gap (free)

The LMU Art Program presents artwork by local high school students. The gallery is open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday for the duration of the exhibition. A reception for the exhibition will be held on November 21, 5-7 p.m.

November 20 - Bloom/Funkhouser Duo at the Duke Hall of Citizenship at 7 p.m. (free)

Flutist Peter Bloom and pianist/bassist John Funkhouser are acclaimed musicians who have performed together for 30 years. Bloom, a 46-year veteran of the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, has performed with jazz legends and collaborated with classical ensembles. Funkhouser, a former Berklee College of Music professor, has shared the stage with icons like Joe Lovano and Esperanza Spalding, with more than 80 recordings to his name. Their show ranges from jazz standards, blues, ballads, and bebop to pan-Latin soundscapes and free improvisation.
